In 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved site-specific selenium criteria for the U.S. portion of Koocanusa Reservoir, following years of transboundary collaboration that demonstrated the 2 µg/L standard was insufficient to protect aquatic life in Koocanusa Reservoir.
